Pot Scraper
Every once in a while I discover something and think, “Why didn't I invent that?” The pot scraper is one of them. It is so idiotic, yet so indispensable: basically a two-inch square piece of plastic with a bevelled edge (if it's a good one), which gets the difficult goop off cooking pots without destroying them. Great idea! Watch out, though, because a pot scraper is not a pot scraper is not a pot scraper... You wouldn't believe it possible to design a bad one (how hard is it?), but it has been done. To be avoided are any which are thick: they may be solid, but they're too fat to get into corners or underneath tightly-clinging sticky bits, so they're useless.
The best I have ever come across is by Revereware (a company about which I know absolutely nothing except that they make one wicked pot scraper). I saw it once at a friend's house and have coveted it since, but unfortunately I don't have one of my own, because no matter how high and low I search, I can't find one. Therefore, I have a slightly inferior pot scraper at my sink (see photo: it's a bit flimsy - short life-span anticipated - but it’s nonetheless serviceable). I really don't know what I would do without it: it helps keeps my beloved pots young!
