Just back from France where we were shooting for season three of the show.  It was so much fun, partly because my great friend Camille was working with us, so we saw lots of each other.  In fact, she and another friend, Nathalie, got thrown into a lot of scenes, so we had some good laughs making TV together.

Among the most interesting things we did were to visit a sardine shop in the 13th arrondissement, “La Petite Chaloupe”.  Only in Paris would you find a little shop specializing in gourmet tinned sardines!  They all have art on them, which makes each tin special, and they are preserved in excellent oils, with flavourings or not, so there is nothing cheap about them. We made a picnic on the Seine with cold butter and baguettes to sample the varieties we bought.

Now, I do not normally go in for cocktails of any sort, but the other great thing we did was go for drinks at the Hemmingway Bar at the Ritz, where the bartender, Colin, is world-famous.  When Colin talks about cocktails, he turns into something between a three-star chef and Shakespeare.  I could listen to him talk for hours, and, as for his drinks, each one has distinct personality and tastes truly delicious.  He made Camille and me “Serendipities” which he called “France in a glass”: calvados, apple juice, mint, and Champagne.  So refreshing, and dangerously good.

I have just flown to Halifax, now, where we will continue shooting season three, so it’s back to my farmer’s schedule for the next two months:  in bed by 9 and up at 4:45.  Oh well, there are always weekends. Maybe I’ll be able to figure out how to work the barbeque that has mysteriously landed on my balcony…(!?!)
